What should I look out for if I am buying a site for my dream home?
There are several things to consider when looking for a site which may be ‘sustainable’ in planning terms – these are covered in our planning basics post.
To begin with sites that have some sort of building on them are a good start – particularly if the site is isolated. It is also helpful if the site is located at least close to an existing settlement.
Adjacent to the development boundary is best if you are hoping to build outside it. Ideally it should be close to services such as doctors, schools, and shops.
Somewhere near a bus route or train station can also be beneficial.
If the site already has a building on it, that is normally beneficial, but not always necessary depending local policy constraints.
If you are looking at a site, and wondering if you could build a house on it. We will look at the planning policy and site constraints then advise on your chances of obtaining planning permission. We will do this within 4 weeks (fast track service available on request)
